Frequently Asked Questions
1) How will we arrive?
Our uniformed technicians will arrive at the job on time with the attitude that you and your concerns, and the care of your belongings are the most important part of our job.
2) How Do We Clean?
Our truck-mounted equipment has high heat capabilities to help minimize re-soiling and to help decrease drying times. A powerful vacuum to remove the dirt and moisture more thoroughly and variable water pressure to rinse the carpet all the way to the backing.
Steam cleaning (hot water extraction) is currently the only method of cleaning recommended by Shaw Industries, the largest manufacturer of carpet in the United States.
We use high quality detergents, pre-sprays and rinsing agents which do not leave behind a sticky residue. This will leave your carpet cleaner longer and less likely to re-soil due to harsh bargain basement chemicals.

4) Do you use truck-mounted or portable equipment?
We use truck-mounted equipment with high heat capabilities in homes of three stories or less. This allows us to use less detergent when cleaning and limits the possibility of re-soiling. Hot water also evaporates quicker which decreases drying time.
5) How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since 1991, and have a spotless record with the Better Business Bureau.
6) Are you a local business owner?
Yes, we are locally owned and operated.
7) Will you explain your cleaning procedure?
We start by pre-treating all areas of concern, then as we are cleaning we will spot treat areas that don't easily clean up. During the process we will move furniture and put blocks or pads under the legs to protect the carpet from staining. Last we will groom the carpet with a carpet rake to help your carpet dry faster and look as new as possible.
8) Is my satisfaction guaranteed?
Space-City Carpet Cleaning is proud to stand behind its seven day redo policy. Although we are very confident that we can get our your spots and stains the first time, we’re always willing to come out within a week of the appointment and fix any areas for you that we may have missed.
If you are not happy with the cleaning, or have a particular concern about what we have just cleaned, just call us and we will come back out and redo the areas you requested. If after re-cleaning you are still not satisfied let us know and we will refund your money for the area, with no hard feelings.
9) Spots vs. Stains?
Spots are usually temporary in nature and can be removed by general steam cleaning. Stains on the other hand can be permanent (like root beer) or possibly can be removed with specialized procedures that take extra time.
Question: "I spilled _______ on my carpets. Can you get rid of it?"
Answer: Our Space-City Carpet Cleaning process is extremely effective at getting rid of most everyday sort of spots - dirt, high traffic areas, even some pet urine stains. Even for more tricky substances like coffee, sometimes just a normal cleaning will get rid of them.
Now, if the stain is more advanced - like ink or rust, or red kool-aide or older pet urine stains, our normal process may only be able to lighten those areas. Thankfully, we also have a spotter kit available to help us get rid of the more difficult, persistent stains.
Question: "Why did the stains in my carpet come back?"
Answer: What you might be dealing with is a process called "wick back." In this situation, The stains have sunk deep into the pad of the carpet, whether from the original spill, or prolonged exposure to the spill. (Allowing the spill to remain wet for more than 4 hours - which allowed the staining material to sink further down.)
When the stain gets into the pad, the situation becomes difficult. Why? Well, think of an oil wick candle. The end of the wick is placed in the oil and then the wick naturally absorbs the oil and carries it up to the top of the wick. Likewise, when the dirt and oils are in the pad, the carpet fibers act as a wick, absorbing the stains and lifting them up. Tell the technician if you know of any areas that have had wicking issues with prior cleanings.
10) How often should I clean my carpets?
Now this is a really loaded question. We find it best to say the frequency of carpet cleaning depends on each individual situation. Naturally homes with children, and or pets would require a more frequent cleaning that a home with just one or two adults. The area where you live can also influence the frequency. If you live in a rural area where dirt and dust blows, you might need more frequent cleaning than a suburban area where there is no bare land.
Check your warranty on new carpet to make sure you follow the times recommended by the manufacturer, so you do not void your warranty.
Most people have some form of allergies, and one of the best ways to reduce them is to keep your carpet well maintained. Vacuuming on a regular basis and having your carpet professionally steam cleaned are two of the most effective ways.
11) Should I clean my mattress?
Yes, dust mites feed off of your dead skins cells and relieve themselves on your mattress. For some people this is not a major concern, but for people with allergies, asthma, or other breathing problems this by-product of dust mites can cause potentially dangerous side effects. Mattresses should be cleaned once every 6 months to kill and remove the contaminants.
12) What should I do in case of a water emergency before you arrive?
Turn off water source, remove any valuables, cardboard boxes, or papers that can or have gotten wet. Put your furniture up on blocks to keep from causing severe water damage. Call a company that can come in and extract the water, and remove padding if needed. Don't wait 3 days to see if it dries on its own, the sooner it dries the better chance you have to avoid carpet de-lamination, mold and mildew. If the water is black water (sewer water) then call a certified professional to handle the source, and be sure to call your insurance agent. We provide emergency service 24/7.
13) What should I do before you come to clean?
Vacuum all carpets. Why???
Vacuuming is the single most important day to day procedure you can do to extend the life of your carpet. The dirt and grit, if left in the carpet will scratch the individual fibers and cause it to hold more dirt, thus giving your carpet a dirty, unclean or worn appearance.
Question: "What furniture do I need to move before you get out here?"
Answer: Generally our carpet cleaning technicians will be able to move small furniture
for you - but they can't move anything heavy or large such as china cabinets, curio
cabinets, king sized beds and triple dressers. . Anything like that would need to be
moved before hand if you would like it cleaned under. Keep in mind, though, that we
can always clean around objects and that we don't need the room cleared before we can start.
Remove the small breakables, or anything to be moved that has breakables inside of it.
Please leave large furniture in it's original location, and move floor lamps, magazine
racks, end tables, coffee tables and dining room chairs to an area we are not cleaning
Think of anything else we can clean while we are there such as rugs, frequently used furniture, spare rooms etc. Please bring our attention to any specific areas of concern; including areas that you feel may need deodorizing.
And finally, just relax. You’re dealing with a company that has your best interests in mind. We have been cleaning in the Space-City area since 1991 and our record speaks for itself. We are a family run business that has made a reputation of being on time, courteous, detail oriented and above all fair. We really do appreciate your business.
14) Once my carpets are cleaned, what else can I do to maintain them?
We always recommend that you apply Fabric Protector to your carpets. Fabric protector can best be described as the wax that you put on your car to protect its finish. It will help to reduce the scratching of fibers in your carpet, that when scratched hold more dirt and grit that prevents light from reflecting through the carpet, thus causing the carpet to look dull and have a worn appearance, that's why vacuuming is so important to keep your carpet looking new. Fabric Protector will also help in the repelling of liquids that have a tendency to stain your carpet if left unattended to long. All in all we highly recommend that you re-apply fabric protector to all your traffic areas after each cleaning due to the fact that it does
wear off over time.
15) How accurate are the quotes you are giving me.
The quotes we give you are very accurate, unlike many cleaners. They’ll often quote you for a
“room,” only to find out when they’re there, a room is 50 sq ft. and doesn’t include
pretreatment. A lot of carpet cleaners are masters of this bait and switch.
At Space-City quote is based on the total number of rooms, square feet of tile and grout or items of furniture to be cleaned to give you a very accurate total. Since our total already includes things like pretreatment,
